ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been having lucid dreams since childhood stages.

Dreams in which I understand that I am dreaming and that what is happening around is just illusion.

The realization of everything around me is just a dream comes at the moment when, somewhere on the edge of perception, I begin to feel the slight weirdness of what is happening.  And suddenly — PUFF — I realize that I am inside of a dream.

Lucid dreaming lets me gain control over every little detailed structure of the dream reality and not just manage it, but create my own as well.

Unfortunately or not, the ability to be aware of oneself subconscious in a dream has one side effect. The feeling of unreality of what is happening begins to manifest itself in the real world — when I am awake. Sometimes it scares me, but at the same time it is incredibly inspiring.

My art is an attempt to convey the unreality of the reality state. My objects of research are mystical images from the subconscious, dreams and secret fears. I expose them to reality, creating art on the edge of both real and surreal. I don’t like to set boundaries both in life and in art so I work in several fields: photography, video and music, mixing them as a whole freely. For me, art is improvisation, dance, magical ritual.

While working on an image, I experiment with wave effects, double exposure and all sorts of distortion.

Being partly an introvert, I feel uncomfortable in big cities and therefore im living in the village, near the forest. The proximity of nature helps me not to be distracted by the bustle of society and concentrate on creating my own worlds. Some may find them dark and scary, but I feel comfortable there, loving my wery own demons.

WHEN MUSIC COMES

One day, listening to music, I was walking through the city and caught myself realizing that the whole world seemed to be moving to the beat, vibrating in clear rhythmic waves. Music helped me tune in to this general deep tempo, see and feel it. Synchronized with the language in which our world is written. WHEN MUSIC COMES project is about how I experience the world through music. Exploring a wave structure of the world and trying to sense the rhythm of the universe.

BEYOND

There is such a phenomenon as lucid dreaming. A dream in which you suddenly realize that you are dreaming. I’ve been seeing dreams like this since childhood. And they have one side effect. You begin to realize that the real world is not real either. In this project I am trying to convey the state of unreality of reality. And speculate about what lies beyond — where we find ourselves when we wake up.

NOWHERE

Children of the 21st century, lulled by the hum of megacities, are accustomed to thinking that the destiny of homo sapiens is to isolate themselves from the aggressive world of nature, subjugate it and use it as a resource. In my opinion, the imposed nativeness of the urban world is illusory and destructive for humans. In the NOWHERE project, road signs — a symbol of urban infrastructure — and natural melancholic landscapes come into contact. In contrast, new meanings of familiar objects are born, and at the same time an awareness of the fragility of the plastic world.
